Amaravathi, Andhra Pradesh — 50 lakh+ chequered tiles for cable protection
The project
When a new capital region is being built, the cables go in before most of what people will eventually see. Long runs of underground power cable need a continuous protective layer over them, and on the Amaravathi works that layer was chequered cement concrete tiles, 300 × 300 mm.
The number is what makes this job stand out: more than 50 lakh tiles, made, tested and delivered.
Keeping pace with the cable gangs
Tiles for cable protection have an awkward timing problem. They are needed exactly when the trench is ready to be backfilled, zone by zone, and not before, because a stack of tiles sitting beside an open trench is in everyone's way.
So the work was organised around the client's schedule. Tiles were wet-cast and demoulded with a clean finish, cured, stacked zone-wise, and moved to each stretch as the ducts were ready to be covered.
What the volume taught us
It also changed how we think about capacity. With this milestone behind us, our tile capacity stands at 25,000 tiles a day, with supply anywhere in India and on-site casting for large contracts.
